Datuk Dr. Syed Muhamad has had an extensive and distinguished career covering both, the public and private sectors in the Asian and Middle Eastern markets.
His academic qualifications include a Doctorate in Business Management from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, USA, Masters of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts and, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from University Malaya.
As an avid learner, he also has a Masters of Law (Corporate Law) from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), and became a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, U.K. He is officially an advocate & solicitor to the High Court of Malaya.
Datuk Dr Syed's experience in the public sector stretches from INTAN (National Institute of Public Administration) with his last position as the Deputy Director (Academic) and, with the Malaysian Administrative and Diplomatic Service. He was also the Secretary of Higher Education in the Ministry of Education and as Deputy Secretary General (Operations) with the Federal Treasury under the Ministry of Finance. His final post in the public sector was as Secretary General with the Ministry of Human Resources.
His corporate experience extends to various overseas and local operations, both in the public and private sectors, such as the Executive Director of the Asian Development Bank. Other Board positions are in insurance, asset management, transportation, engineering and the energy/power sector.
His Ph.D dissertation entitled "Board of Directors and Organisational Performance" was published by Garland Publishing, Inc. New York & London in 1991.
